  • On this episode Rebecca explains what led her to leave managed care and go into private practice, and we discuss the industry factors that contribute to provider resignation, burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma
  • Rebecca works in private practice in Houston Texas, and many of her patients are referred from dieticians and mental health providers because she works with a health at any size model, and many of her patients have felt shame or otherwise had negative experiences in the past with physicians
  • We discuss how the system cannot provide what’s needed in 10-15 minute appointments for these patients; many of whom have experienced trauma
  • We explore how COVID influenced physicians and healthcare providers in general to re-think their career paths
  • Rebecca shares how burnout was a doorway for her out of the system, and how med school and residency is designed to be so much at such a fast pace that evaluating what’s really desired and meaningful at that time is difficult
  • She also shared how non-compete clauses for physicians in managed care can make them feel trapped to get out of the system, and how the data shows that female physicians are at a higher likelihood of being either at part-time or out of the medical field by 6 years into practice
  • Rebecca shares for us what mental health revolution means to her and it’s a hopeful take on how these systems could all be waking up to mental health realities
  • To refer to Rebecca or learn more about her work, here are her contact details: Practice Website, Personal Website, Instagram, and Tik Tok

About the Podcast

Therapist Expanded
Reaching past industry conditioning to the source of our creative power
Host Erin Gibb is a therapist, clinical supervisor, group practice owner, Therapist Fulfillment Coach, and early adopter of the weird and wonderful.

Through interviews with relatable guests, controversial outside-the-box thinkers, solo episodes, and coaching demos, you'll see how therapists are uniquely conditioned for fear, responsibility and unfulfillment. Therapist Expanded then points the way to reaching past industry constraints to the source of our creative power, because when we therapists dare to live our deepest dreams, we start a mental health revolution.

Wondering how living your core desires freely and fully could start a mental health revolution? Well as Carl Jung said, we'll only take our clients as far as we've gone, and your host has seen the incredible growth of those surrounding a therapist when they courageously dream outside of their conditioning.

So are you curious yet? Join us and let's expand together and watch our field grow!
